Lesson plans for October 5th-9th

What a great homecoming week we had! The Osage pride was bursting out all over the place and the students had a blast showing their spirit! Now it's time to buckle back down as the end of first quarter quickly approaches. The quarter ends on October 23rd, only three weeks away!

English 7: Monday- students have been working on their short stories. We are to the peer editing and revisions stage and will spend the day working collaboratively on catching our errors and improving our writing.
Tuesday- final drafts of the students' short stories will be due at the end of the period. They will have the class time to make any last minute corrections or changes and make sure they have a professional paper to hand-in.
Wednesday- we will be starting our oral commentaries. Students will be presenting newscasts. We will divide up into groups of 4 or 5 and students will put together news stories, weather segments, sports highlights, and special interviews just like they see on the news. We will spend a little time talking about newscasts and preview a few that we see every day.
Thursday- students will have the class period to work on their newscasts, assembling and practicing their stories.
Friday- we will use half of the period for a run through of newscasts and then we will present live. I will get a camcorder from the library so that we may tape our productions and view/post them for others to see. We will finish all newscasts on Monday if we run out of time today.

English 8: Monday- students have been working on their personal narratives. We are to the peer editing and revisions stage and will spend the day working collaboratively on catching our errors and improving our writing.
Tuesday- final drafts of the students' personal narratives will be due at the end of the period. Students will have class time to make any last minute corrections or changes and make sure they have a professional paper to hand-in.
Wednesday- as the production part of this assignment, students will be sharing their narratives with the class. This may take one day or three depending on how long the students' narratives are. I have allocated Thursday for presentations and we will use Friday if need be as well. If we finish early, students will have a speaking activity to work on.

Please let me know if you have any questions, comments, or concerns. Lesson plans are subject to change but we've been pretty good about sticking to them! Keep an eye on those grades!

Let's have another great week of learning, Osage!

Ms. Ashley Alonzo
