Lesson plans for the week of August 31st-September 4th

Week #2:

English 7:
                Monday- set up our blogs for future use. Students will use these blogs to 1) write for a range of time, tasks, purposes, and audiences 2) use technology to produce and publish their work 3) interact and collaborate with their peers on writing projects.
                Tuesday- practice writing movie outline. Students will work collaboratively with the teacher to practice writing a movie pitch over a short story. Students will need to determine main plot elements and organize them effectively to persuasively present their movie idea.
                Wednesday- formal movie outline writing activity over Rogue Wave- students will use the skills they practiced yesterday to write a persuasive movie pitch for the story they read in reading class.
                Thursday- students will have in-class work time to work on their movie outlines/pitches with the teacher being readily available to guide and assist. Students will be assessed on their ability to write a real or imagined narrative with descriptive detail and effective technique.
                 Friday- presentation day- students will have the opportunity to present their movie pitches to the audience being evaluated on their ability to present their pitches in a coherent manner using description, facts, details, and examples. If time, students will also respond to a writing prompt via their blogs

English 8:
                Monday-  set up our blogs for future use. Students will use these blogs to 1) write for a range of time, tasks, purposes, and audiences 2) use technology to produce and publish their work 3) interact and collaborate with their peers on writing projects.
                Tuesday- practice writing summary activity. Students will work collaboratively with the teacher to practice writing a story summary. Students will need to briefly retell the plot of the story in their own words with a focus on characters, conflict, rising actions, and resolution.
                Wednesday- formal summary writing activity over My Favorite Chaperone.  Students will use the skills practice yesterday to write an effective story summary that demonstrates  their understanding of the five stages of plot development.
                 Thursday- students will have in-class work time to work on their summaries with teacher readily available to guide and assist. Students will be assessed on their ability to write an informative piece which examines a topic and conveys ideas, their use of evidence from literature to support analysis, reflection, and research, and produce clear, coherent writing.
                 Friday- summaries are due. Students will also respond to a writing prompt via their blogs.
