Lesson plans for October 19th-23rd

Just a reminder that first quarter ends on Friday, October 23rd. Please take a look at grades and see if there is anything that needs to be done (missing work) before grades are submitted.

English 7: Monday- we will finish watching our oral commentaries the first part of class and then move into our No Red Ink teaching tool website. Students will be working on exercises in identifying parts of speech. We will have a quiz over this material on Thursday. Students have until then to complete all the exercises assigned.
Tuesday- as part of our dramatic reading performance task students will be participating in a reader's theater with their classmates. Students will be in groups of 4 or 5 and will choose a script to present to the class. As this is a dramatic reading, students will be expected to put some life and energy into their parts. We will watch a few examples of performances and then students will get to work on their own productions.
Wednesday- students will have class time to work in their groups on their scripts. The key to doing well on this assignment is practicing.
Thursday- we will start class by taking our quiz over identifying parts of speech and then move into presenting our scripts. This will take the remainder of our time today.
Friday- we will finish presenting our scripts and if time remains students will have a writing prompt to blog about.

English 8: Monday- students will read in class the short story The Lady or the Tiger. After reading, students will then have to complete the story by writing the ending as the story leaves off at the climax. Students will need to pick a side and then develop an appropriate ending. As well as writing, students will have two assignments in No Red Ink to complete. This week we will focus on contractions and commonly confused words 4. Students will have a quiz over this material on Thursday.
Tuesday- students will have class time to work on their story endings and assignments in No Red Ink.
Wednesday- presentation day- students will present their story endings to the class as well as an explanation as to why they chose to end it the way they did. Presentations will take the whole class.
Thursday- students will take their quizzes on contractions and commonly confused words at the start of class. After completing these, we will continue on with our story ending presentations.
Friday- if we have any story endings left to present we will take care of that first and then move into a writing prompt in Write to Learn. Students will be given a topic to write about and then be given instant feedback on ways to improve their writing.

Lesson plans are always subject to change, and please contact me with any questions, comments, or concerns. Let's have another great week of learning, Green Devils!
