Lesson plans for January 25-29

Reminders: January is quickly coming to an end and mid-term grade check will be on February 8th. Students will not have school on Monday, February 1st, as teachers will be in an all-day in-service.

English 7- Monday: students will complete a prior knowledge activity to go along with our mini-unit on memoirs. Students will research the book We Bought a Zoo and complete an internet activity to gain knowledge of the content.
                Tuesday- we will have discussion over what the students found during their internet search and will begin watching the memoir movie We Bought a Zoo.
               Wednesday- students will continue watching the movie We Bought a Zoo.
               Thursday- students will continue watching the movie We Bought a Zoo.
               Friday- we will finish the movie and complete our writing activity pertaining to memoirs.

English 8- Monday: our writing tasks for this week cover visual presentations. Students will spend the week exploring websites and apps that can spice up and add variety to any presentation they have to give. We will start with Storyboard That and move on to a different site/app each day.
                Tuesday- Word cloud generators
                Wednesday- The Make Room Planner site
                Thursday- Poster my Wall site
                Friday- Piclits inspired picture writing

Lesson plans for January 18th - 22nd

Reminders: Mid-term will be February 8th. This seems like a long way off, but it will sneak up on us quite quickly. The winter sports season is at its busiest point, so keep an eye on those grades and be sure to take care of yourself.

English 7: Monday- we will be writing the last three articles for our newspapers. We have the comic, horoscope, and ad writing left to do. We will start writing these today.
                 Tuesday- we will finish writing the last three articles and they are due tomorrow
                 Wednesday- students will chose a newspaper template that they would like to use and start desigining and laying out their articles and pictures.
                 Thursday- work day to continue putting articles and pictures into their newspaper template.
                 Friday- final revisions and last mintue changes and newspapers are due at the end of the class period. A total of six articles with pictures are due.

English 8: Monday- Letter to the Editor is due for proofreading and students have three more articles left to write for their newspapers- a comic, horoscope, and ads
                 Tuesday- work day on the last three articles that are due tomorrow
                 Wednesday- students will chose the newspaper template they would like to use and begin assembling/laying out their articles and coming up with their paper name and logo
                 Thursday- work day on newspaper lay out
                Friday- final revisions and last minute changes to newspapers and they are due at the end of the class period. A total of six articles with pictures are due.

Lesson plans for January 11th - 15th

Reminders: Report cards were sent home with students on Friday. Please make sure you have a conversation with your student about their progress. We will have an early dismissal on Wednesday for teacher in-service. Students will be let out at 12:45. It is very cold outside, so please make sure your child dresses appropriately for the weather.

English 7: Monday- word of the day, Facebook post corrections, and fact versus opinion review
                 Tuesday- word of the day, Facebook post corrections, cause and effect review
                 Wednesday- word of the day, Facebook post corrections
                 Thursday- word of the day, Facebook post corrections, oral report discussion
                 Friday- word of the day, Facebook post corrections, oral report work time

English 8: Monday- word of the day, Facebook post corrections, Venn diagram review
                 Tuesday- word of the day, Facebook post corrections, character sketches
                Wednesday- word of the day, Facebook post corrections
                Thursday- word of the day, Facebook post corrections, character sketches
                Friday- word of the day, Facebook post corrections, autobiographies

Lesson Plans for January 6th-8th

Reminders: Welcome back! Third quarter begins January 6th. Second quarter/semester one grades have been submitted and are available to view online through JMC. Second semester is a great time to start fresh, reevaluate your goals, and resolve yourself to be and do better. We all can improve, especially myself. Please continue to contact me with any questions or concerns. I look forward to another great semester!

English 7: Wednesday- A few new things will be incorporated into second semester. Students will have a word of the day that they will be responsible for finding the definition, part of speech, using in a sentence, and identifying a synonym/antonym. This is an easy way for me to introduce new words and encourage their use in class. We will also be doing more proofreading exercises as to sharpen our skills in a variety of areas.
             Thursday- Word of the day, proofreading exercise, and review of chronological order with a timeline activity.
             Friday- Word of the day, proofreading exercises, and we will be looking at facts versus opinions in different mediums of literature. Students will evaluate sources of information for credibility and validity.
