Reminders: I hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving vacation! Time goes by so quickly and we are only three short weeks away from Christmas vacation. Second quarter/first semester ends on December 22 so please keep an eye on grades and attendance. Let's finish out this quarter strong! Winter sports are in full swing and our athletes are ready to shine. Get out and support your Green Devils!
English 7: Monday- start No Red Ink practice over subject-verb agreement. Quiz will be on Friday. We will also start our analysis of musical lyrics. We are looking for figurative language and analyzing the artist's meaning.
Tuesday- we will continue our analysis. Students will choose a song and analyze it for meaning and use of figurative language.
Wednesday- students will use the same song as yesterday and write a one-two paragraph analysis noting the effectiveness of the language and meaning that the artist chose.
Thursday- students will try their hand at writing a little poetry. Final copies are due tomorrow.
Friday- No Red Ink quiz and students will be presenting their poetry.
English 8: Monday- start No Red Ink practice over subject-verb agreement. Quiz will be on Friday. We will also be focusing on freedom fighters for this collection. Students will choose a freedom fighter and write an analysis of their efforts.
Tuesday- students will continue on with their analysis focusing on the what, how, and why of their freedom fighters. Students will have to do research in order to answer these questions.
Wednesday- freedom fighters literary analysis are due at the end of the period.
Thursday- students will begin writing their own autobiographies. This will be an ongoing process.
Friday- No Red Ink quiz and then continuing on with autobiographies.

Reminders: Mid-term grade check was last Friday. Progress reports will be mailed out this week. Please keep an eye on grades as second quarter is going to go very quickly.

Lesson plans for November 16-20
Reminders: Thank you to all the parents that came to parent/teacher conferences! It was so great to get to speak with you about your student. Please do not hesitate to contact me if you would like to sit down for a conference again.
This is a big week for our students! We have Iowa Assessments on Wednesday and Thursday. Students will be testing from 8:30-11:30 both days so it is extremely important that your child be on time to school. Also please make sure that your child gets a good night's rest and a hearty breakfast so that they are at their best when they take the assessments.
Thanksgiving break is November 26 and 27.
English 7: Monday- students will start their opinion essays. Students will be able to pick their topic for this paper with the focus being on supporting their opinion with sound facts and examples. This paper will be due on Thursday. Specific details will be given in class.
Tuesday- work day on opinion essays

Lesson plans for November 9th-13th
Reminders: This is a busy week! We have parent/teacher conferences on Tuesday and Thursday from 4-8. I would greatly enjoy seeing you all so feel free to stop in for a chat! Also, we have an early out on Wednesday at 12:45. Tuesday is our Veteran's Day program at 9:30. Mid-term of second quarter is quickly approaching so keep an eye on those grades. Iowa Assessments are November 18 and 19. Please make sure your student comes to school ready for these tests.
English 7: Monday- students will have one new assignment in No Red Ink. They will take the quiz over this material on Friday. Students are highly encouraged to complete these exercises as they will help on the quiz. Students will be working on a Fakebook page profile on their favorite character. They will complete a Facebook-like template and also be writing a character analysis. This is a little different way to do a character analysis so we'll see how the kids like it. All information for this assignment is available through google classroom.

Lesson plans for November 2nd-6th
Reminders: Parent/Teacher conferences are next week November 10th and 12th from 4-8. Junior high winter sports start practice this week. Our high school volleyball team will be playing in the regional final on Tuesday at Clarksville at 7:00 p.m. Come support your Green Devils!
English 7: Monday- we did not get time for our figurative language notes last week so we will kick off this week with that. Students will have a quiz over the material on Friday
Tuesday- students will be making a poster depicting an example of figurative language. This will help us study for our quiz. Students will use design software on their computers to create an eye-catching, informative poster.
Wednesday- students will take a practice test over figurative language and have time to finish up their posters
Thursday- we will present student creations and review a variety of grammar topics on No Red Ink
Friday- students will take their quiz over figurative language and have a blogging activity
English 8: Monday- students have two new assignments in No Red Ink over components of a sentence and identifying sentences and fragments. Exercises will be due on Thursday before we take the quiz. Students will also be working on a short story storyboard where they depict the main parts of the story in a sequence of pictures with dialogue.
