Lesson plans for October 26th-30th

Reminders for the week: Quarter grades were submitted on Monday and will be sent home with students on Wednesday. They are also available for viewing through your online access to JMC.

This is Red Ribbon Week as well and we will be focusing on making healthy life choices. Students have designated dress-up days this week to show their united stance on being drug and alcohol free.
Monday- wear sweats
Tuesday- wear boots
Wednesday- wear red
Thursday- wear any team apparel
Friday- wear orange

English 7: Monday- students will be working on their opinion essay for Patriot's Pen, a writing contest conducted through the VFW. Students' essays will answer the question, "What Freedom Means to Me." These essays are due on Thursday and they will receive credit in both social studies and English for this paper. Students will also be working on a demonstration speech this week. Speeches will be presented starting on Thursday. Specific details will be given in class.
                 Tuesday- we will spend the class period going over different figures of speech that we see in our readings and that we should try to include in our writings. A quiz over the material will be given on Friday.
                 Wednesday- work day on demonstration speeches and Patriot's Pen essays.
                 Thursday- Patriot's Pen essays due and we will start presenting our speeches.
                 Friday- we'll take our quiz first over our figurative language notes and then finish presenting our speeches.

English 8: Monday- students will be working on their opinion essay for Patriot's Pen, a writing contest conducted through the VFW. Students will also be working on their next paper which is a movie review. Students will choose a horror/scary movie to review for the class.

               Wednesday- work day on both writing assignments that are due on Thursday
               Thursday- both writing activities are due at the beginning of class and we will share out with out peers.
              Friday- we will watch the short movie "Tell". This is a scary movie loosely based on Poe's classic short story The Tell-Tale Heart. Students will watch and analyze the movie for specific elements that are indicative of horror shows.
